What was the inspiration to create a professional skin cream?
The Story of Egyptian Magic begins in 1986 at a Chicago Diner when an elderly man approached Westley Howard (The name Mr. ImHotepAmonRa was then known as), who was passing through as a water filter salesman at that time. The elderly man said to Westley, “Brother, the Spirit has moved me to reveal something to you.” Mr. ImHotepAmonRa said, ”It didn’t seem too weird to me. I’m a Spiritual person, so these things happen to me all the time.”
The stranger’s name was Dr. Imas. He never revealed his last name or made it clear what kind of doctor he was. Over the next two years, Dr. Imas periodically visited Mr. Howard in Washington and showed him how to make a skin cream from olive oil, beeswax, bee pollen, royal jelly, and bee propolis (a substance that seals hives). Dr. Imas claimed it was the exact formula for a cream found in ancient Egyptian tombs.
How long did it take to perfect the formula?
It took one year to perfect the formula.
How did the product first get in the hands of celebrity endorsers?
From the beginning in 1991, Egyptian Magic attracted early support among leading health food stores, natural health pharmacies, doctors and plastic surgeons in communities with many high profile influencers, mostly located in California. Dr. Uzzi Reiss, a “doctor to the stars” in Hollywood, began recommending Egyptian Magic to his celebrity clients.
In 2001, Allure Magazine featured Egyptian Magic in an article about famed stylist and makeup artist Gucci Westman using it on her celebrity clients for shoots or runway shows. This was the first mention in a major fashion magazine, and it sparked the beginning of a series of features in the fashion press that is unrivalled today among word-of-mouth products.
All of the celebrities using Egyptian Magic are unsolicited and unpaid, and it’s because they truly love the product. They often start using Egyptian Magic at the recommendation of their makeup artist; (makeup artists) adore using the cream before applying makeup to soothe dryness before a movie set, runway show or red carpet. Some plastic surgeons and aestheticians also recommend Egyptian Magic to their celebrity clients after an operation or treatment. And it’s also the multi-purpose properties of the cream that are particularly appreciated by celebrities. Kate Hudson uses it on her children, Eva Mendes and Cara Delevingne always have a jar in their bags, Cameron Diaz uses it on bug bites to stop itching and on sunburns to soothe, Rashida Jones uses it as a lip balm and for stretch marks, and Chaka Khan uses it on her entire body.
